DIY Kids Travel Chalkboard
Here is an easy DIY project that the kids will get hours of use out of! DIY Kids Travel Chalkboard! I have used this for road trips, yes put a towel over the seat the chalk can be messy! We also used this for camping, it came in handy when if was raining. Plus, it gets their imagination going too! This would also make for a great frugal DIY gift.
Very inexpensive and super easy to make and the kids will love it!
DIY Kids Travel Chalkboard Materials
Clipboard – check your local thrift stores, I grabbed one for $1 at ours!
Rust-o-leum Chalkboard spray paint – about $4-$5 at major retailers and very easy to use.
1 package of chalk – $0.47 at Walmart!
1 pencil case – $0.99 in the back-to-school section at Walmart
1 book ring – you can find these in a package of multiples at office supply stores – priced around $6-$7
Remove all tags and stickers from your clipboard. Make sure there is no ‘sticky’ tag residue left or the spray will clump on it.
In a well ventilated area lay down a few old newspapers or an old sheet. Evenly coat one side of the clipboard with the chalkboard spray paint. I sprayed mine on top of an old sheet on our garage floor with the garage door open. (see photo)
Let it dry for several hours and then repeat on the other side of the clipboard.
Once your board is completely dry (don’t rush it – you’ll regret it if it smudges or chips), connect the book ring with the pencil case and the clipboard. I latched mine right to the hole on the clipboard handle. Place the chalk in the pencil case and you’re good to go!
