  • Click on the mailing list icon to join their mailing list. I receive coupons approximately twice a month!
  • If the store coupon barcodes are the same, you can not use more than one coupon.
Example — You can not use 2 30% off coupons in a single transaction.
  • If the store coupon barcodes differ, you can stack them.
Example – You can use a 30% off of a single item + a 25% off of your purchase.  Keep in mind that the 25% discount will apply to all other items and not the one that already had the 30% discount applied to it.

Readers Tips:

Asia stated: I just recently learned that multiple coupons can be used in a single transaction at JoAnn Fabric Stores. This is possible as long as the last 3 digits under the coupons barcode are all different. I used a coupon from the JoAnn website, a coupon they sent me in an email, a coupon I received by snail mail from JoAnn’s and a coupon in the JoAnn app. It’s also possible to receive coupons by text message. I find this really helps to rack up savings on items that would make great gifts for the upcoming holiday season.

  1. Thanks for the great tips! I knew that Joann’s would accept competitor’s coupons but I didn’t realize that they would let you use a competitor’s coupon in addition to one of their own on the same order. I will have to ask at my store and see if they will allow that. It will be great if they do.

  7. Pretty good list! I always forget to ask for military discounts. My favorite way to save at JoAnn’s – the dollar bins! I usually walk away with some great finds for teacher gifts, etc.

  9. TAX EXEMPT STATUS for churches. There are probably other organizations which apply here as well. That is what I use when purchasing for the Sewing Ministry for our Church in Ohio. Really helps out. Also, if you find a flawed or damaged item that you want, ask if they will discount it. If not, don’t feel you have to buy it. There is a form for Tax Exemption, so ask for that and fill out when you first go in the store. Not in the checkout line with purchases with people behind you. They will issue you a wallet sized card to signify status, and put info into their database. Tax exemptions are also honored at places like Lowe’s. Never hurts to ask, and as always be kind and friendly, genuine, not fake or patronizing. Associates know when customers are acting fake. They have a tiring job working with shoppers. Let’s make it more pleasant all around.

  10. I would edit that you can only use one total purchase coupon per transaction. Such as you can’t use a 20% off total purchase with a $5 off $25. I don’t know if this policy also applies to the other discounts listed above.

  11. they offer discount on end of bolt.

  12. At Joanns
If your coupons have different ending numbers on the code you can use as many 50% or 40% didn’t know that until a employee told me that along with competitors coupons.

  13. Can the Teacher Discount be combined with other coupons?

    • I replied to your email as well, still waiting to hear back!

    • Hi Lisa,

Here is their response: “Unfortunately any coupons/discounts cannot be combined with another discount even at dollar amount off on a single item. If you are purchasing more than one item in store you may use both the dollar amount off coupon with one item and your teacher discount on another.”

  14. Felicia Davenport says

Hello, most of this information is correct but I have to point out one thing. You can use several coupons of the same kind from JoAnns and their competitors, it is not limited to 1 from JoAnns and 1 from each competitor. The coupons just need to have different barcodes (usually reading the last 4 numbers will let you know it they’re the “same” coupon or not) So if you’re on the e-mailing list like I am, you’ll usually get sent a coupon almost everyday, or every other day of the current sale. the coupons on each e-mail will have a different barcode. So if they sent you five 50% off coupons, you can use all five in a single transaction, along with the one from the website, the one from the app, the texting coupon, and any paper coupons you have. Seriously, I’ve gotten 28 items that were not on sale in one transaction and used a 50% coupon for each of them. As long as the barcodes are different, the system will accept them.

Also, JoAnns accepts coupons from AC Moore, Hancock Fabrics, and Aaron Brothers as well as Michael’s and Hobby Lobby. So those coupons that Michael
s gives you after a purchase? you can use that AND the Michael’s app, AND the one from Michael’s website, AND the one from the newpaper ads. All in the same transaction with any JoAnns, Hobby Lobby, and Hancocks coupons. Just dont ask them to use the same exact coupon in several different transactions. They’re not allowed to do it, and if they did do it could get them fired. So just sign up for everything, and have your coupons ready BEFORE you get to the register, they love that!

  15. Joann’s is just the best- great tips on stacking coupons. An addition to the Shop Clearance tip: besides the clearance fabric rack on the fabric side, there’s a whole aisle of craft and home decor clearance in the very back on the craft side. So you may have to hunt around in your store to find the big deals. (Like the burlap wrapped soy candles for $2 I found the other day!) Also, besides the endcaps, look at the random wire racks hanging near the endcaps. My Joann’s will put clearance items in these sometimes. I found $2.50 faux-leather embossed blank journals one day in the scrapbook paper aisle.

  16. I have another great way to save at Joann’s – at least at my local store, in Alaska. Go to the cutting counter, and ask for a copy of the store magazine. It costs a few dollars, but the whole back page is a pile of great coupons that don’t match the ones in the ads. Often I get 3 or 4 more 40% or 50% off single item coupons there, and it pays for itself instantly when I’m buying fabric. 🙂 Have a great day!

  17. The military discount IS every day, just keep in mind that most days there is a 20%+ coupon off total purchase which is more than the 10% military, since they cannot both be used. Also, the end-of-bolt applies to already cut pieces that are wrapped on a bolt. For example, if you ask for a yard and 1/4 and there is a cut already made that is a yard and 2/3, that whole 2/3 is 50% off, so you’d be saving! Jo-Ann’s does not choose the price the fabric is because it’s predetermined by the distributor, but that’s why they allow so many different ways to save! We love our loyal customers! 🙂

  18. I go in for fabric for my non-profit endeavors during holiday sales. You can buy the last ‘under a yard’ bit on a bolt for half price and that is good when you need specific fabric, but my very best bargains are to buy the remnants of sale fabric. For instance, fleece is say $10/yd but on doorbuster for $3/yd. Some weekends , remnants are 75 off so heres how it works out. Dig through fleece remnants and find all that are regularly marked at the $10/yd. Now let’s assume that they’ve given you a 1 1/2 yd piece in remnants. #1 instead of half off $15 regular price
#2 you pay half off sale price e so $4.50 but then it gets better
#3 so you get there on a 75 off remnants weekend and pay even less. End result. I have super cute piece of remnant blue/red stripe fleece 1 1/2 yrs that I paid $1.08 for. And lots of less than a yard s raps for other projects that cost .25 or .50

  19. I would rather shop at my local independent fabric store where I don’t need coupons to get good prices and the quality is superior to Joann’s. You must realize that their products are so over priced that you need coupons to bring them down to realistic prices. Shopping shouldn’t be so complicated.

    • Hi Bev!

I totally agree! If you can find a better deal at your local craft store then that’s where I would shop too. I believe this to be true at a lot retailers that their items are over priced. Shopping shouldn’t be complicated like it is, that’s why I love to share ways to help others save.

  20. Joann’s does NOT offer military discounts. I have tried in several stores and none have yet to give me one. Hobby Lobby doesn’t either. Michaels does. I also have yet to be able to use a competitor coupon at any Joann’s I’ve been to.

  21. These are all great tips – Joann’s is always really good about letting me use coupons AND my teacher discount. Thanks for sharing Heidi!

  22. Great tips!

  23. I agree Joanns is a nice store and I have been there often. The people are nice and helpful. What I disagree with are the coupons. I am on their mailing list. I get an ad about every 4 months. The coupons I get are always a discount only on regular priced items. I go to the store and everything is on sale. So much for coupons.

  24. I love joanns. I also know that the local Joann’s here in Colorado Springs,CO will also do the price match of identical items. Example: Joann’s has NFL Fleece on sale for $8.99 a yard; Hancock Fabrics has it on sale for 5.99 a yard. Joann’s have me the fleece at the Hancock Fabrics price by just showing them the Hancock Fabrics add. I do this every chance I get plus they also took my coupons on the same order.

  25. These aren’t “secret” at all. Anyone who shops for crafts at Joann’s can see these notices all over the place if they just pay attention. Also, you forgot senior discounts, which are offered but not as frequently or as generously as those offered at many other stores.

  26. Becky Kelly says

Then there’s the oldie but goodie = REMS! Remnants are generally less than a yard in length and are already marked 50% off the regular price. But here’s the fun part: if the fabric is on sale that day, you get the sale price and then the 50% off! So if you find a rem that is has a regular price of $4.99 a yard, and there is a sale that day of 50% off, that would make it $2.49 a yard. Then you get 50% off the rem price — whoo hoo! all of a sudden it is $1.25 a yard! I use the larger rems to make grandkids’ clothes/projects. There is everything from quilting to fleece to decorator fabrics.
Also, if you ask for a specific amount and there is less than a yard left on the bolt, tell them you will take the rest as a ‘REM” and they will give you the 50% off without cutting it off!
    Happy Sewing!

    • At our Joanns, all fabric remnants go upto 1 yd except for fleece. The fleece may be as long as a yard and a half. Also remember that our item does not need to be made out of the same fabric. Front and back and sleeves and pockets can all be different fabrics as long as they coordinate. And kids love that.
Also our Joanns will have some days that remnants are 75% off, when they have an overstock of remnants.

  27. I had no Idea that Joann Fabrics offered a military discount! I will be taking advantage of that discount for sure!

  28. Thanks for this, With the growing popularity of online shopping we can find a coupon/discount or rebate for almost every store and any product we need online!

  29. Thanks for these tips! The Hancock fabric stores are closing, so I will be doing more of my sewing and craft shopping at Joann’s.

My tip is that Home Educators qualify for the teacher discount

  30. Joan Thomas says

Unfortunately, many of these depend in your store. Our Jo-Ann will never stack coupons, and add exclusions beyond what is stated on the coupon. They also used to let us use military all the time, but now will not allow it if you use any coupons or on ‘door-busters.’
My daughter has the same problem where she lives. You are fortunate if you have a store that honors all these options!

  31. Joann Employee says

FYI: As of 8/1/16, Joann will be discontinuing the Student and Non-Profit discounts.

  32. becky martin says

I use each and every coupon, and have a VIP card. I spend a lot of time on line at their website and use the “end of bolt” discount there, and my time spent on the website, I find a fabric I want that is not on sale, but use my 50% coupon, plus search for the smallest amount on a bolt and use that. Then when that fabric DOES go on sale, it is never for 50%, it is generally for 30 to 40%, so think about that when making selection. And FIND A FLAW in the piece of fabric you are wanting. Even if it is a lot of fabric, the cutters will discount that too! Also, there are really good prices AFTER a holiday. It can always be used later on. My last shopping trip totaled $325.00 before checking out and when I did, my new total was $127.50! Try that!
