3 Thrifty New Year’s Resolutions For 2014

3 New Year's

2014 is here and it is time for all of us to start thinking about making our New Year’s resolutions.  If 2013 has been a bit tough financially and you are finding yourself stressed out and short on cash, then some thrifty New Year’s resolutions may be just what you need!  These days, very few people are having an easy time of it financially. With the prices of everything rising, jobs hard to come by, pay rates falling and bonuses and overtime just about things of the past for everyone, most people need to re-evaluate how they spend money. For 2014, write down a few thrifty New Year’s resolutions to implement in your household, and do your best to stick to them.  Making a few thrifty adjustments in your budget will help reduce financial stress in the New Year: and we could all do with less stress!

Here are 3 thrifty New Year’s resolution you may consider making in 2014:

  • Enter Sweepstakes!  This is a habit I am definitely getting into for myself in the coming year! It’s fun to do and it doesn’t take that much time. Make a list of all your favorite brands and look them up on Google and Facebook, generally if they are having a sweepstakes or a contest, it will be announced on the company’s webpage or Facebook page. Enter to win free products or even bigger monetary prizes.  Check out our Simplee Thrifty Sweepstakes Page, where usually current sweepstakes and giveaways have been compiled for you, and you can just choose which ones to enter.
  • Buy items off season!  There is a great thrift store in our neighborhood, and last year all summer long I collected Christmas decorations. In July, they had a 50% off sale on their already discounted items.  I walked out with 2 large shopping bags of Christmas décor for $12.50!  When the season arrived, it was so much fun to unpack everything I obtained over the summer. A lot of it I had forgotten about, so it was a nice surprise finally opening the shopping bags!  In the coming year, I’m going to buy everything off season! Lawn décor and barbecue grills in the winter; coats, boots and heaters in the summer, etc.  You can run a search on Google to look up which products are cheapest to buy at what time of year. Shop clearance sections, this is on of my favorite ways to save.
